Day 20: "Past Their Prime"

This was intended to be low key, but it may just be a fruit picture.

I think I need to make some banana nut bread.

  1. I'm afraid this doesn't really work for me. Low key doesn't necessarily mean you need to underexpose everything. You just have to choose a dark subject. Your subject is probably sufficiently dark, but the areas of it that are MEANT to be bright, should still be bright. Everything should be correctly exposed, but it's just that with the majority of the tones being dark, the overall result becomes low key.

    1. Thanks for the help. Your comments are invaluable. I brightened it up a bit. I still don't know if I've gotten it. I may have to back to the raw version and start over again.

    2. ... And I started over again from raw. Other than exposure, I didn't change much from what I shot. I used one light and a reflector to light up the back. I don't know if it's low key, but I think it works better as a picture. Could maybe had added a little more contrast....

  2. This is MUCH better. It all feels properly exposed now and not dingy, yet still retains its darker tones. It's probably not a classic example of low key, but it's just about there. Only think I could suggest to prevent the bananas feeling like they are just floating in black space is to somehow introduce a tiny bit of light on the tabletop, just to show that it's there, and just around the bananas, really. But this does look much better! Well done!
