Day 14: "Let's Make Circles!"

Today I tried my hand at high key with this picture of a compass.  This is almost exactly as it came out of the camera.  When I tried cropping it to thirds, it didn't look so good.  I'm thinking that might be due to the placement of the diagonal?

If you don't recognize the compass, maybe this will help.

  1. Placement on the intersection of the thirds in the picture will often make for a strong composition. I realise you were going for high key here, but I think this needs a bit more depth in the darker shadows, as it looks a bit washed out. There are not many and they are not dark, but the nib looks like it should be black, even if the rest is pale. Nice work with the lighting.

  2. I am guessing your compass is different from the old time ones I am use to? Darn if I am not having a hard time recognizing it :(

    1. I posted a photo of the compass from another angle. Maybe you'lll recognize it now? I also fixed the exposure and crop and reposted my main photo.
